BMI has become a standard and is used as a gauge to measure healthy body weight but one can debate its efficacy due to the inability to determine fat mass and muscle mass.

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. BMI is an index or chart used to determine healthy weight in relation to height.

BMI is not a measure of body fat.

BMI has become the medical standard for assessing healthy body weight.

Formula for BMI:

  • BMI= weight (kg) / height (m) X 2

Measuring your BMI:

  • Healthy weight— BMI from 18.5 to 25
  • Overweight— BMI from 20 to 30
  • Obese— BMI from 30 or higher
