The Zone diet is a new diet to hit the weight loss market. It’s created by Dr. Sears, from what I know about it, I don’t mind it but it’s still cut “carbs” ,from the reviews I’ve read it’s not the worst diet out there. It teaches you some good things about hormones and the effect high insulin levels have on weight loss. The problem I have is, it’s based on the glycemic index (GI), the glycemic index is a number system assigned to food based upon the impact foods have on blood sugar. If you’ve read my article the soup effect. I point out that the glycemic index is of no effect when you have a complete meal. What I call a complete meal is having a lean protein, starchy carbohydrate and a fibrous carbohydrate at every meal. When you eat in such manner the “soup effect” kicks in and the effects of complex carbohydrates such as when ingesting potatoes are irrelevant because the protein and fiber slow the release of glucose into the blood stream, therefore you have no insulin spikes. You don’t need a diet you just have to understand how to eat and the effects food has on your body. Dr Sears clearly has good motives and The Zone diet has some virtues, I’ve yet to read any of his books but I will and if I find any helpful information regarding The Zone Diet, I’ll post another article on my website. Until then, diets don’t work.
